This year's April in Paris film festival, running from April 5 to April 11, focuses on the contributions women have made to French film and to filmmaking as a whole. The films, made as early as 1916 and as recently as 2007, vary in their content - from love triangles (French Twist) and impassioned affairs (Vendredi soir) to a parody of Shaw's Pygmalion (The Ocean Waif) and concern for a friend (Cause Toujours!) - but all share one quality: the fine direction of these female réalisatrices.
